New York City Mayoral Election

Eric Adams has been declared the Democrat party nominee for Mayor of New York City. He isn’t as progressive as people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, would’ve wanted. He is a good candidate that will bring balance in New York City.

In the first round, he got 31.8% of the popular vote and he got more votes than all of the other candidates. In the second round, he got 50.5% compared to Kathryn Garcia’s 49.5%.

Maya Wiley didn’t even get a shot in the second round. She was the progressive candidate in the Democrat party primary. She was backed by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Chris Evans (yes, Captain America), and many others. Even with big names like Chris Evans endorsing her, she couldn’t pull through the first round.

That shows that New York City, or even New York as a whole is not ready for a progressive. They’ve showed it time and time again. If AOC were to try and primary Chuck Schumer for Senate in 2022, I would bet she would lose. New York isn’t ready for the progressive moment and this Mayoral Election showed it.

Now the disappointing finish for Andrew Yang is obviously another big thing, but I talked about it in this article https://www.leftorrightpolitics.com/index.php/2021/06/24/andrew-yang-choked/

Kathryn Garcia almost pulled it through in the second round. She got 49.5% of the second round vote. Eric Adams still ended up beating her, which is something I and others expected. She didn’t get that much of a backing by celebrities and even other politicians. She got endorsed by New York State senators and assembly members. She got endorsed by Clark Gregg though, he played Phil Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic universe. The fact that she got so many votes with very little endorsements shows that she was a good candidate.

Now let’s talked about the champion of the Democrat primary, Eric Adams. He got so many endorsements from United States Representatives, State Legislators, Local Officials, and athletes as well. He got endorsed by Knicks forward Taj Gibson, Former New York Giant Ottis Anderson, and Former Mets Pitcher Dwight Gooden. He got an endorsement from Danny Glover the actor as well. With all of these stars backing him you would expect him to win and he did so in style.

Now, the moment you have all been waiting for. Who did I, Ellis Savage, the head writer of Left or Right want to win. Well, I wanted Yang to win and I was pretty disappointed that he didn’t win.
