Can Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Win Re-Election After Covid-19 Cases in Florida Skyrocket?

On November 8th, 2022, Florida will hold their Gubernatorial Election where Incumbent Republican Governor and presumed nominee Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will face the Democrat challenger. A notable name to announce a campaign for the Democratic ticket is Charlie Crist (D-Fl), a US Representative from Florida’s 13th Congressional District. Another notable name to launch a campaign for the Democratic Party is Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried (D-FL).

In polls that have been released within the Democratic Primary, all have Charlie Crist winning the Primary. With Nikki Fried coming in second. Charlie Crist has endorsements from 2 US Representatives from Florida, while Nikki Fried has no notable endorsements. Incumbent Governor Ron DeSantis has been endorsed by Former President of the United States Donald Trump (R-FL), and US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL). More endorsements are expected to follow for all candidates. 

The Cook Political Report has this race as a Lean Republican win, Inside Elections has this race as a Battleground, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball has this race as a Likely Republican win. In General Election polls that have been released, Ron DeSantis leads in 85% of them. So as the polls have shown Ron DeSantis still has a good chance to be re-elected as Governor.
