Senate Votes to Confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson

The United States senate voted on March 7, to confirm Kentanji Brown Jackson to the nation’s highest court as an associate justice. The vote count was 53-47. All 50 Democrats voted to confirm Jackson and three republicans also voted to confirm. The three republicans were Sen. Romney from Utah, Sen. Collins from Maine, and Sen. Murkowski from Alaska. And 47 Republicans voted to oppose the confirmation.

The 47 Republicans who opposed the confirmations raised concerns on whether she was in favor of court packing. Senators also questioned her sentencing record, Republicans called it soft on crime. The senate judiciary committee earlier in the week was in a 11-11 vote which hinted how the confirmation vote was going to be.
