What’s Going on with the Trucker Protest?

With everything going on in Ukraine, you might have not heard much about the Washington D.C trucker protest. The truckers are still out there, and they are still protesting the Covid restrictions. Up until now the trucks have been making their way to Hagerstown, Maryland. Which has become known as the area which has now become known as the staging area for the protest. The truckers are not alone in this effort, those sympathetic to their cause have been making their way to the D.C. area.

Many of the supporters have gathered on the various overpasses on the beltway surrounding D.C. Most of which came equipped with American flags, Gadsden flags, and some with Trump flags. People from all over the country have arrived to show their support for the convoy. In one video a man from Denver, Colorado came to support the convoy. The man claimed that he flew out, then rented a minivan to support the convoy. In the news clip, the man had attached many American and Gadsden flags to the minivan. He claimed that he was doing it because he loved his country and wanted to show solidarity with the truckers.

Another man in the clip said he was there to support one of his friends who is a trucker involved in the convoy. This man drove all the way from Minnesota in his pickup truck to support the truckers. He also claimed that he supported the goal that the truckers were trying to accomplish, elaborating that the mandates of any kind regarding the virus need to end. The truckers seem committed in this regard, with a Fox News piece stating that the truckers are planning on continuing to “loop the Beltway” until the politicians come out and talk with them.

On March 8th, Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) came out and talked with the organizer of the protest, Brian Brase. A direct quote from the article was “Brase and other representatives said they take issue with vaccine and mask mandates, and state and federal response to the pandemic, and demanded that lawmakers and health officials investigate the origins of the COVID-19 virus.” In the article Brase wanted to make it clear his group was not against the vaccines, but was only against the mandates. In his own words, “we are not anti-vaxxers, we’re just pro-choice.” Brase makes it clear what his convoy’s intentions are, he also makes it clear that the protests are peaceful and will remain so.  As of today, the protests are still looping the D.C. beltway around the city itself. The convoy has not made its way into D.C. itself. According to the Dailywire the convoy is not wishing to make its way into the city, worrying that lawmakers and the media will try to portray them as if they were involved in January 6th. This has led to the convoy to continue its course along the D.C. beltway. The convoy will most likely continue along the beltway until the mandates and restrictions end, as they say they will. The convoy has so far remained peaceful, and I believe that it will continue to remain peaceful.
